DARLA WEGNER DEL VALLE ISD BOARD TRUSTEE SMD 8

Like many of you, I chose Del Valle as the place to put down permanent roots. After completing my active duty service in the United States Army, my family moved here in 1994. Over the past three decades, I have watched our community grow, adapt, and build a brighter future. This is my home, and its continued success is my deepest passion.
I am not just a name on a ballot; I am a proud Del Valle ISD mom who has been deeply invested in our schools for more than twenty years. My four children all grew up in this district, attending our local schools and graduating from Del Valle High School between 2015 and 2026.
My involvement started by volunteering with the Popham Elementary Boosters in 2002. Over the years, our family expanded as we fostered children and adopted my youngest two through Travis County Child Protective Services.
Because of these deep personal ties, I have spent the last 15 years on the school board fighting to ensure our campuses receive the resources they deserve. Having held every officer position on the board, I offer the experienced, stable leadership necessary to guide our district through rapid regional growth.
Your tax dollars and community support have been vital to this progress. I am incredibly grateful to our fellow residents for passing three major school bonds since 2011 with historic approval margins of 65 percent or higher. We have directly translated that voter trust into modern facilities, cutting-edge classroom technology, and safer campuses that protect our students while enhancing local property values.
While we have come a long way, our work is not finished. My focus remains on continuing this momentum until Del Valle is officially recognized as an A-rated school district.

Darla is seeking re-election to the Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees. Her focus is clear: give the Superintendent time and support to carry out Board established goals for K-12 success.
15 years on the board, has taught me that spending more money is not the answer.
We must ensure that we are making smart strategic investments, holding ourselves accountable, and being transparent with our community about the challenges we are facing .
Effective school governance requires a clear boundary between administration and oversight. As your Trustee, my job is not to dictate classroom instruction or manage daily leadership. My focus is ensuring our district has the strong leadership it needs, the resources our schools deserve and a strict standard of accountability for student success.
Under my leadership as Board President (2025), the Board of Trustees prioritized community collaboration by hosting a series of town hall meetings. These served as a vital platform for stakeholders to share insights, ensuring community voices actively informed the district's governance and future planning.

As a Trustee, I am dedicated to cultivating meaningful opportunities within our schools that inspire lifelong learning and deeply connect students, educators, and families in the best interest of all.
With the support of our community, I am proud that we successfully passed more than $700 million in voter-approved bonds that directly benefited our students learning and safety (2014, 2019 and 2022).
Among other things, these bonds were utilized for building Newton Collins Elementary, upgrading the DVHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-tech ECHS) facilities, rebuilding older campuses: Del Valle Middle School, Smith and Hornsby Elementaries and securing the funds for our second high school.
Additionally, the remaining schools got newly constructed entrances for access and safety. I have consistently worked to ensure our students get state-of-the-art spaces to learn and grow.
For 15 years, I have had the distinct honor of serving the families of Del Valle ISD. My commitment has always been focused on results, not micro-management. Over the years, serving as either the Board President, Vice President, Secretary or Trustee, I have worked to guide our district through rapid growth, protect essential classroom resources and maintain high standards of accountability.
I am grateful that our collective efforts earned statewide recognition through the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award, proving that when we focus on student progress and community engagement, Del Valle wins.
As your School Board Trustee, my vision is built on a simple foundation: effective school governance requires a clear boundary between administration and oversight.
We must keep students at the center of our priorities, provide stable governance and give the district's leadership team the time and space to carry out a thoughtful plan.
I believe in empowering educators by honoring the operational leadership of our superintendent and respecting the professional expertise of our teachers. When we trust our professionals to lead, our classrooms thrive.
